In 1920, what we now know as Sunny Isles was just a parcel of land bought by a certain Harvey Baker Graves to develop a tourist resort. The island was not even accessible by car until 1925, with the construction of the Haulover bridge from Miami Beach.
In the 1950s and 1960s, the recent city really booms and becomes a major touristic destination, with more than 30 new hotels and motels, with the typical one-story architecture. A half-mile long area was even designated a historic site, due to these famous hotels.
